BROKEN KEY EXTRACTIONS

TORONTO, ETOBICOKE, MISSISSAUGA

This week we had a few key extractions request. One of them was from a few teenagers whose parents were away for a weekend. The teens threw a fun party for their friends and from here to there they inserted the wrong key to the lock, twisted it around and broke the key. They called us on a Sunday morning and were very worried their parents might find out about it. They asked for a clean and cheap solution that will not cause any damage to the door, or change of the lock, as well as to be quick and district.
Luckily they called us, as our motto is to: Always make as minimal damage as possible. Where as other locksmiths may have go for a quicker and much more expensive solution and would drill the lock only to replace it by a new lock. Our trusty technician was able to calm the teens down and reassured them he could extract the key with minimal damage as he possibly can. He spent half an hour picking the lock and extracted the broken miss-fitting key. The party host could then use their spare keys, and the story was kept private between the teens the locksmith and…. Yourself.

Reasons:

There may be a number of reasons when we are called for key extractions jobs: Customers put the wrong key in the lock; key may get stuck, jammed or broken in the lock. Sometimes we are called as people try to sabotage door locks and shop shutters locks with glue, wire, sticks or other objects. For whatever reason you may need a locksmith to help you out, it is always a unpleasant to be Locked Out.

Methods:

We use extracting and picking tools to preform this type of jobs. The process is inserting to the lock picking tools and then an extracting tool. These are long metal pins. By pushing the pins inside the cylinder as far as possible, then grip the teeth at the right angle and pull it up to release the broken key or object that is stuck.
This job requires patient, and the technician needs to be knowledgeable and gentle as it is very fine tools. Key extraction can be as quick as 5 minutes for easy jobs, and up to 30 minutes. The length may vary according to how the key got broken, what is the type of object blocking the key. Extracting a miss-fitting or wrong key takes longer and is much harder to take out of the lock. Some of the pins inside the cylinder may get stuck and make it harder for the technician to grab the key. High security cylinders are thinner and it much harder to pick and extract keys or objects.

Key extraction is a fine and technical job that requires skills and knowledge of the internal working orders of locks. Trust your local locksmith to try and extract a broken key before they drill the lock. You will pay a smaller price, and will not need the hassle of changing keys for all family members.
